Urban Gymnastics

Our Urban Gymnastics classes are held in a state-of-the-art facility and focus on safety and skill development in a structured class environment.

Urban Gymnastics is best summarized as “the discipline of overcoming obstacles in one’s path by using only the human body.”  It could also be described as "Awesome stunts and tricks!" Urban Gymnastics focuses on practicing efficient movements to develop one’s body and mind.  It has been compared to martial arts. Martial arts is used to overcome any opponent; Urban Gymnastics is used to overcome any obstacle.

Urban Gymnastics got its start in France, during World War I and World War II when French soldiers were taught how to move efficiently through challenging obstacle courses or “parcours.” The skills involved include walking, running, jumping, quadrupedal movement, climbing, and balancing. Today’s modern take on these skills was developed by David Belle. Belle promoted, adapted, and developed these skills into the modern activity we have today.

Here at VGA, our Urban Gymnastics classes are most popular with boys, but are open to both boys and girls of all ages. Students will develop natural physical capabilities including bipedal and quadrupedal movement, jumping, landing, climbing and vaulting, along with, focus, perseverance, and creativity.
